The mission of the HigherOut Hero program is to assist new military Veterans with the transition from service to civilian employment and help current Veterans land a great career. The program will also strengthen Veterans' interviewing skills by helping to pinpoint and promote their unique qualities. HigherOut helps coach Veterans to present those qualities in a way that will help them secure a job.

Today, military Veterans are returning home from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, eager to return to normal life and start their civilian careers. Unfortunately, the current economic crisis has made the search for employment a battleground of its own. The latest statistics report 200,000 people are leaving active military service each year, and 18% of our Veterans are unemployed - three times greater than the national average.

Along with offering career services to Veterans, HigherOut is also working to help companies create hiring plans that include recently separated military Veterans. Veterans have the leadership, drive, character and skills that companies crave. In addition they are able to overcome challenges in the workplace by drawing upon disciplines and strategies learned during their time in uniform.

The Problem

• An estimated 100,000+ recently separated Texas Veterans have entered the workforce, with more on the way!
• Most companies do not currently have a defined Veteran Hiring Program that works
• Companies hire differently today than they did after any other major military conflict
• Hiring from websites does not work well for most job seekers and even less for Veterans
• Companies and the Public have a good outward message for supporting Veterans, but are not willing to put any real skin into the game
• The value of hiring Veterans is not effectively being conveyed to employers
• There are very few companies with Veteran Mentor Programs in place
• Assessment tools are not available that relate Military Personnel to civilian jobs

The Solution

• We proactively ENGAGE with companies to gain commitments to hire Veterans
• We work with companies to identify needs that can be filled by Veterans
• We suggest and build training programs and out-of-the-box solutions to allow Veteran hiring
• We identify internal Company Champions & Model Mentor Programs
• We use Employee Assessment Tools, Methods, and Strategies, developed specifically for Veterans and their unique backgrounds, including LeadershipID and SMARTT ID Assessment.  These tests measure a candidate's ability to learn a specific job, solve problems, understand instructions, and apply knowledge to new situations.
